The Catch Trust

South Africa, my country of birth, holds a special place in my heart as the foundation of my early development and passion for cricket. Like many young boys, I was inspired by the heroes on my screen, and one of those was South African legend Gary Kirsten. A tenacious opening batter and now a world-class coach, Gary became an icon whose career fueled my own aspirations. I’ve been fortunate to build a relationship with him during my own journey in cricket.

Returning to South Africa, it’s clear that the country is brimming with talent and opportunity. Gary, through his foundation—now the Catch Trust—is doing remarkable work to address the inequality in access to sporting opportunities for children. With five schools, a UK World Cup tour, and a Centre of Cricket Excellence in Khayelitsha, the Catch Trust has become a powerful force for change, providing countless young athletes with the chance to fulfill their potential.

I take great pride in supporting fundraising events, leveraging my influence to draw attention to important social issues, and collaborating with nonprofit organisations to create lasting impact. I believe in the power of sports and community engagement. It drives positive change and builds a meaningful difference in the lives of many.

The Catch Trust in partnership with the MCC

This day was extra special as the young girls embarked on a drawing competiton to display what the ‘Spirt of Cricket’ means to them. The MCC Foundation in partnership with the Catch Trust came together in February 2023 to launch a new Women’s Empowerment Programme. The programme will focus on health education for teenage girls playing cricket and support for their coaches. I spent the day observing the joy and the passion and skill of the girls. The work done by all the coaches and the wonderful support they’ve received is truly inspiring.
