WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
I was fortunate to grow up in South Africa with a dad who loved nature conservation and open spaces. It gave me a feel for simplicity, culture and natural beauty. In this vein, I was privileged to be taken to Alaska to photograph grizzly bears with someone as renowned and accomplished as David Yarrow. His friendship and teachings have proven invaluable. I will continue to spend more time out there trying to support conservation projects close to me.
It was hardly surprising that I veered into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda to capture the utter magnificence of the gorillas there. Here, alone with three guides, we scrambled for some eight hours seeking out these families and experiencing that novel, bewildering sense of wilderness.
