Nick Compton earns England Test Call Up!

The England selectors today (18/09/12) announced a 16-man Test squad to be captained by Alastair Cook for the forthcoming four-Test match series in India.

The squad includes two uncapped batsmen, Somerset’s Nick Compton and Yorkshire’s Joe Root, and three spin bowlers; Samit Patel, Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann.

National Selector Geoff Miller said: “Nick Compton has performed well consistently for Somerset in County cricket this season, made big hundreds and shown that he has the temperament and the technique to play at a higher level.”

Nick was naturally thrilled with the call up: “It is really overwhelming but I am over the moon. It’s something I have worked towards for a long time. I’m happy for my family and everyone that has contributed to my success."

Nick to play for England Lions against Australia A in August!

Nick has been picked to play for the England Lions side along with fellow Somerset team mate Craig Kieswetter. The Lions will take on Australia A in two four day tour matches on the 7th August (Old Trafford) and the 14th August (Edgbaston).

Nick enjoys a superb return to Cricket!

Nick Compton recovered from his back injury in time to play in Somerset' s last home LV=CC match of the 2012 season. An away win at Sussex put Somerset in the running for second place, and another home win against relegated Worcestershire would secure that. A fantastic bowling spell from Abdur Rehman set the game up and Nick enjoyed his return to the middle by making 155* taking his tally to 1,494 runs for the season. Somerset won within 3 days by an innings and Nick will now be hoping this latest ton boosts his England chances: “It’s out of my hands now. If I haven’t done enough to merit a chance, I’m not sure what more I can do."
