Nick Compton named as one of Wisden Five Cricketers of the Year
Nick Compton has been named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in the 2013 Almanack that was published on Wednesday.
The Somerset batsman enjoyed his best ever season in 2012. He was the leading run scorer in the country with 1494 runs, at 99.60 which included five centuries and best of 236 to lead the first class averages.
Nick was unlucky not to be the first batsman in the country to score 1000 runs before the end of May since 1988, but was beaten by the weather at New Road when he not out nine, just 50 runs short, when the drizzle set in.
In recognition of his phenomenal summer Nick was rewarded with a place in the England Test party for the tour to India before Christmas and earlier this spring played in the three match series in New Zealand, where he enjoyed considerable success.
Regarding his award Nick said: “I feel really privileged and very honoured to become a part of the history of this great game. To be named alongside such an illustrious list of past winners is something very special.”
